The Institute for Fundamental Physics of the Universe supports and hosts small-scale workshops dedicated to the investigation of the fundamental laws of Nature as emerging from Cosmological and Astrophysical observations. The focus is on theoretical and phenomenological studies, with connection to the experimental and observational programs in the field. Priority will be given to thematic programs on selected topics in the areas of:
- Astroparticle Physics;
- Astrophysical Probes of Fundamental Interactions;
- Early Universe;
- Gravitational Wave Astrophysics;
- Structures in the Universe;
- Theory and Phenomenology of Gravity.
(For further information on research topics within the scientific goals of the Institute, see the IFPU Research Areas webpage.)
Programs will be selected by IFPU Governing Council on the bases of their scientific rigour, innovativeness and timeliness.
Each program has a typical duration of one or two weeks. The preferred format is that of a small scale meeting, gathering together a community of expert of the field and maximizing interactions, possibly with few seminars and multiple brainstorming and discussion sessions, also allowing time for working group activities.
The Institute provides logistic support, including an office desk space for about fifteen participants present at any given time, seminar and common rooms and access to the other Institute facilities, and financial support via a contribution to local expenses (accommodation at the nearby guesthouses of the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics, and a per diem covering meals).
In connection to the possible difficulties with the Covid-19 pandemic and in view of the fact that travel restrictions might reappear, a remodulation of the program in terms of a hybrid activity (partial attendance in presence and partial remotely) would be acceptable even on a close to the beginning of the event. Facilities for hybrid sessions are available at the Institute.
The call for programs planned up to August 31, 2024 is now open.
There will be two soft deadlines for activity proposals to receive full attention:
- June 6 for activities to take place between October 2023 and February 2024
- November 15 for activities to take place between March 2024 and August 2024
Proposals should be sent by e-mail to the IFPU director and specify:
- Title of the proposal;
- Name and email address of at least two scientific organizers;
- Name of a scientific advisor among IFPU affiliates, supporting the local organization;
- Abstract of the proposal;
- Scientific motivations and description of the proposed activities (up to 3 pages);
- Expected list of key participants;
- Expected total number of participants (applying the limit of about 15 participants at any given time, but not including in such limit eventual IFPU affiliated members);
- Duration, preferred period and preferred starting date for the program.
For further information, please contact the IFPU director, or any member of the IFPU governing council.
