Where the Circum Galactic Medium meets the Galaxy Environment

IFPU
10-14 June 2024

Galaxies grow through a complex interplay of internal and external factors. The two critical elements are the baryon cycle, which governs the gas exchange between the interstellar and intergalactic mediums, and the galaxy’s environment, which modulates the fuel supply and the galaxy’s activity through time. Studies have disjointly focused on these crucial aspects. However, recent investigations have uncovered the environment’s direct impact on the baryon cycle, emphasising the need for a systematic approach to join the two fields. With the proposed IFPU Focus week, we want to bring together experts in these two crucially interconnected fields to build a task force of experts aimed at understanding how the environment and baryon cycle collectively influence galaxy assembly and evolution.
